DLN Success Story — KS Patient Given A Brand-New Smile

Kansas resident Michelle suffers from several health-related conditions including peripheral neuropathy, degenerative disc disease, TMJ, and fibromyalgia, and is on constant oxygen as a result of these conditions. Her oral health was poor, with several teeth decayed and broken off at the gumline. Michelle lived in constant pain and had nowhere to turn for relief. Because her disabilities ended her 15-year career as a sheriff’s department dispatcher and her daughter could only work as a part-time waitress while acting as caregiver for her mother, the necessary dental care was sadly out of her reach.

Fortunately, Michelle was referred to Donated Dental Services (DDS) and three volunteer dentists stepped in to help. Dr. Kelly Henrichs extracted 24 teeth, Dr. Richard Stein (pictured) graciously donated a full set of upper and lower dentures fabricated by Heumann & Associates Dental Laboratory, and periodontist Dr. Justin R. Kohlhorst smoothed out her tori, resulting in a brand-new bright, healthy smile.

“Thank you for all the help you have done for me. I really appreciate everything you do. I am so happy to get my dentures, thanks to you!” – Michelle

DLN • Kansas helped more than 270 patients in the fiscal year 2015-2016. Check out the rest of our numbers in our most recent Kansas State Annual Report.
